The Suncorp/LKQ joint venture – What does it mean for you?

 

 In August 2013, Suncorp, Australia’s largest insurer announced the formation of a joint venture with international automotive parts company LKQ.

The announcement should serve as a warning to the automotive industry and in particular the body repair and parts recycling sectors. The sheer size and market dominance of organisations such as Suncorp and LKQ means that they will have the ability to snap up the lion’s share of parts currently in the Australian marketplace.

APRAA honours one of its own - Vale Mike David Wolley

Around the world key figures are recognised for their outstanding contributions to their Industry. APRAA recognises the efforts, commitment and dedication of one such indiviual, Mike David Wolley who has sadly passed on.

Our thanks, thoughts and prayers are with those that are left behind and rest assured Mikes legacy of commitment is being carried on by his son Mathew.

September 2012 - APRAA – PINNACLE 2012 National Conference & Trade Show

 

The Auto Parts Recyclers Association of Australia (APRAA) has joined together with Pinnacle to hold its annual national Conference & Trade Show from 18th – 20th October 2012 located at Sydney Olympic Park in the geographical heart of Sydney, NSW. Check the national event page for more info!

August 2012 - New Damage Assessment Criteria for the Classification of Statutory Write-Offs

With the release of the new Damage Assessment criteria (produced by AustRoads and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council) which has been in development by Industry stakeholders such as APRAA for several years, will again require compliance by Industry stakeholders to adhere to these tougher protection measure to further improve the safety and viability of our Industry.

Progressive implementation is expected across Australia between September 2012 and February 2013. Commencement dates confirmed so far are:

1 September  - South Australia
3 September  - New South Wales
(see page 4 of the New Damage Assessment Criteria FAQs on how they will apply in NSW)
1 November  - Victoria

Other dates will be added as they are confirmed, but most jurisdictions are expected to adopt the changes by the end of 2012.

June 2012 - ELV Forum Held in Melbourne

On 7 June the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council hosted a national forum on the management of ELVs in order to work towards developing a consistent view of priorities to combat the problem with our stakeholders.

The forum brought together more than 50 representatives of the insurance and automotive industries/trades, environmental agencies, scrap processors, police and registration authorities to define the common issues of concern and explore options for achieving improved ELV outcomes.

Representatives from APRAA, all the Motor Trade Associations and the VACC participated in the forum.

2011 APRAA AGM Report

The 2011 APRAA Annual General meeting was held in Sydney on Friday the 4th of November , graciously hosted by MTA NSW.

As part of the meeting, Chris Cooper (MTA-NSW) was elected Chairman, with Glen Ford (MTA-Q) elected Vice Chairman.

As the APRAA Chairman is from NSW, MTA-NSW will now take over the role as the national secretariat. However, as before, any enquires should be directed via your State MTA or Chamber of Commerce.

The APRAA Executive Committee members would like to thank George Papillo (MTA-SA) for his service of APRAA Chairman, and John Purshouse for his service as Vice-Chairman.

The service of Peter McMahon, Division Manager MTA-SA,  as the APRAA National Secretariat was both recognised and  appreciated by the Executive Committee.

2011 APRAA Yard Tour - the Chairman's Wrap of a Great Event

What a fabulous event the 2011 APRAA National Yard Tour was, VACC our host, delivered a first class event for delegates to enjoy. All the functions were excellently organised and run and of course very central to Melbourne.
